The turtle dove is considered a messenger of happiness or love, but its real living conditions are less romantic. After losses of almost 90% of the German deposits since 1980's, the species is now highly endangered. Whole areas are now free of turtledoves. Originally to be found in alluvial forests and forest borders as well as around clearings? The preferred habitats of the turtle dove today lie in the cultivated landscape used by man with field trees and hedge structures or in sparse forests with undergrowth, but sometimes also in villages or settlements or on former military training sites or in gravel and coal mining areas. The turtle dove prefers to stay where they have sufficient and pesticide-free seeds of wild herbs and water to drink? and. Optimally offers ihr a mosaic of different land uses and crops throughout the breeding season a rich food base. As the only one of our domestic pigeons, the turtle dove lives as a migratory bird and thus exposes itself to new dangers such as climate change, the loss of habitats in the Sahel zone and legal and illegal hunting in the Mediterranean. Visually, the turtle dove is unmistakable among the domestic pigeons. Am au? is most likely ihr colourful Ge? which seems almost exotic. Distinctive to this is ihr clearly stepped, dark tail with white end. The top of the head and the outer tops? Hill ceilings look blue-grey. Against this are the back and the inner waiter? blanket painted rust brown with black feather centers. The neck sides of the turtle dove are decorated with a black and white striped spot. The throat and chest are slightly reddish. A clearly reddish eyelid ring surrounds the orange-red eye.
