An imposing palm tree, of two, at a height of 22cm, completes this year the nativity scene that Grete Wendt designed as early as 1910/11 on behalf of the Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau.
History:
This year, two imposing palm trees complete the nativity scene that Grete Wendt designed as early as 1910/11 on behalf of the Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau. The production of the foliage, which she so artistically executed during her practical semester, presented us with many a puzzle, as it was necessary to let the palm trees "grow" their distinctively curved leaves. Drawn from fine shavings, the leaves of different sizes are first stained and dried before the 30 palm fronds are glued into the trunk. Leaf by leaf, the lush crown of the tree forms until finally the last one sits in the right place.
